gabe, frustration
All my family (except my sister) is here in my apartment. We were actually having a genuinely good time. Then my brother Jeff brought up politics.

EDIT: Holy ghod, how am I related to these people?

I haven't heard any grand conspiracy theories, beyond the fact that we're all going to become socialists, of course. But yeah, that's the way they are.
11th-May-2009 10:13 pm (UTC) - Fear reaction
It's been said that a Liberal is a Conservative that hasn't been mugged yet.

Oddly, someone did a study, and apparently the Conservative score much higher on the Personal Fear index. They are afraid, day to day, of more things more often. Which makes the mugging comment a truth of sorts.

Another study positively correlated church attendance with the approval of torture.

So there is some matrix of Fear and Punishment that correlates directly to "that mindset". They aren't "dumb" they are "frightened", said fear possibly being a consequence of ignorance or, sadly, stupidity. (that is, the correlation is one directional between conservative and stupid, in that stupid people are more likely to be conservative, but conservative people are not deterministically stupid. 8-)

So attack or explore "the fear" to undermine "the dumb".

Or take pity, it is sad to know they are _that_ afraid of life.

There could very well be something to this. It's an interesting line of thought. I'll have to ponder it a bit. Thank you!
