Tyler Florence is in several Food Network shows, but "his" show is called "Tyler's Ultimate". This used to be a show where he'd travel to (about) 3 locations to get different variations (extremes) on a dish, then he'd put together his "Ultimate" version drawing on aspects from the earlier recipes. Sounds awesome, no? And it would have been, except that somehow this format maximized Tyler's SUPER-ANNOYING personality traits! I endured it, mostly because of the great locations and terrific recipes (his, and others'), but it was truly painful at times.
Anyway, my TiVo picked up the new season a while ago, and this year the format has changed. It's just him in (what we are led to believe is) his apartment, typically making an entree and 2 sides, all of which are over-the-top. I don't know why (maybe the new format, maybe something happened to Tyler in the intervening year off), but Tyler is no longer unbearable on this show. He seems calmer, more confident, and no longer trying to prove himself. It's an amazing transformation! If he put you off before, give him another try.
