Since I didn't leave my apartment today (doing washes and cleaning instead), I decided to hit the ZigZag Cafe again. Casey, unfortunately, was just on his way out when I got there, but I got to meet Ben, his business partner and bar co-owner.
Started off with the Cockspur 12. Nice nose, and started off very nice, but my palette quickly tired of it, and it became flat. Good, but I don't think I'll be buying it. Next was the New Orleans Rum; oaky, with pronounced vanilla notes. Very, very good. I'll be on the lookout for this one. Ben also offered me samples of several other rums, most of which I'd tried already (he was shocked that I not only knew about but owned some Newfoundland Screech), but there was a Lemon...something (I'll look it up when I'm sober) that had a very astringent nose, but turned out to be good, though not great. Also there was Plantation rum, clearly a sugar-cane rum, with strong cherry and vanilla overtones. It's different, and worthy of additional... investigation. Next time for sure.
Well, I'm not sure why I'm posting, except that I'm really buzzed. Woo!
