I'd been trying to get out to a sushi place for a week or two, and when jss1113 posted his recent trip for some, it got my mouth watering even more. Last Thursday, kitschparade and I went to I Love Sushi on Lake Union. It was my first trip, but at work we have a huge file of all the local sushi places with notes on each, and I Love Sushi had a number of positive votes. It was great! Reasonable prices and very good sushi in a great atmosphere. We did go a little overboard, though: I ordered the 8-pc. combination and unagi nigiri, we split a Rainbow Roll, and JD ordered the tuna sashimi (yes?) and Tropical Roll (which is back on the menu!). That last is avocado, strawberry, kiwi, mango and salmon, with blueberry soy and wasabi mayo. Mmmmmmm! All very fresh and tasty. The unagi didn't look as good as I'd hoped it would (it's my favorite), but the taste and texture turned out to be spot-on.

I tried making an improv Turkey Divan casserole over the weekend, but my cheddar sauce broke; I must have heated it too quickly. I was able to salvage a few meals out of it, though, and with a fresh batch of sauce, it'll be as tasty as ever.

Also on the menu were blueberry (thanks, PPM!) pancakes (thanks, Alton!) with Grade B maple syrup (thanks, TJ's!), and they turned out fabulous. I wanted to make fried chicken, but I ran out of flour making pancakes. So now I have to lug a huge sack of flour to the gym on my way home from work. Awesome.

Yeah, it was really good. There are at least two supposed-to-be-top-notch places within about 3 blocks of me, but I haven't tried them yet. That will change soon. Maybe this weekend, in fact. Though I also think it's time to make the first French Onion soup of the season, so I'll have to ration my $$$.

Yes, it was a straightforward Sauce Mornay (make roux, add milk, wisk until thick, add cheese) which has served me well in the past. *shrug*
